What is wisdom?
Definition of wisdom
possessing discernment, judgment, or discretion.
Correct Application of Truth, makes one Wise.
Truth is Objective
It’s not just the laws of physics, mathematics, nature that are holding the universe together.
It is also God’s moral laws.
Wisdom cannot exist unless truth Exists.
Including Moral Truth.
Moral Truth is Objective.
It’s as real as rock. To break moral truth is to break yourself.
The More Truths you use, the more freedoms/benefits you can gain.
What happens when you combine these three laws?
1. Air Pressure, *storms and artic vortexes
2. Gravity, *tired feet, aching back.
3. Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. *bump into the doorway. The wall doesn’t move, all that energy is delivered back to you.
Answer; Flight, requires at least three laws.
True Freedom: Individual Responsibility.
Enables us to become Interdependent.
Children, Dependent
Teenagers are becoming: Independent
Adults: Interdependent.
You are never alone with your choices, they always effect your relationship with God and people.
Whenever a third party comes in and says you are no longer responsible for ______________________ you have lost a freedom and become a slave.
Food:
Shelter:
Clothes:
In Proverbs God is going to talk about the following.
Your work ethic,
Your finances,
Your relationships,
Your Idols,
Your affections,
Your Time
Why? because they are all in the 10 Commandments.
Look at the genius of this literary pattern.
IF. . . .
[Pro 2:1 ESV] My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you,
[Pro 2:2 ESV] making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding;
[Pro 2:3 ESV] yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,
[Pro 2:4 ESV] if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures,
Then. . . . (Benefits) 1st Benefit is God, a relationship with your Creator.
[Pro 2:5 ESV] then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
Benefits of Following Your God. . . .
God is the Source
[Pro 2:6 ESV] For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
To Gather & secure safely.
[Pro 2:7 ESV] He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
[Pro 2:8 ESV] guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of His saints.
Then. . . . .(Benefits)
[Pro 2:9 ESV] Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path;
[Pro 2:10 ESV] for wisdom will come into your heart,
Wisdom come INTO your heart, NOT from your heart.
False Teachers say the good is already in your heart.
Godly teachers say Put Good in your evil heart.
Jesus said concerning the human heart.
[Mat 15:18 ESV] But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.
[Mat 15:19 ESV] For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.
[Mat 15:20 ESV] These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone."
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
[Pro 2:11 ESV] discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you,
Look before you leap.
Wisdom Protects you from Politicians, Preachers, Salesmen & The National News.
[Pro 2:12 ESV] delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech,
“Tie means lie”
Politicians
Preachers; False Teachers,
Salesmen.
News People.
Have you listened to a politician and after all those words, you still don’t know what they said?
They use general words but do not define what they specifically mean.
[Pro 2:13 ESV] who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness,
[Pro 2:14 ESV] who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil,
[Pro 2:15 ESV] men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways.
Each one of the following breaks one of God’s Big Ten Commandments.
Abortion, Murder
Healthcare: Steals Freedom & Your Money
Taxes: Steals your money
Tithing to TV Preachers, so God will give you more material wealth. Stealing
Sexual Immorality: Coveting & Adultery: Any physical intimacy outside of marriage of one man and woman.
Wisdom protects you from Sexual Immorality.
[Pro 2:16 ESV] So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words,
[Pro 2:17 ESV] who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God;
[Pro 2:18 ESV] for her house sinks down to death, and her paths to the departed;
[Pro 2:19 ESV] none who go to her come back, nor do they regain the paths of life.
Benefit:
[Pro 2:20 ESV] So you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous.
[Pro 2:21 ESV] For the upright will inhabit the land, and those with integrity will remain in it,
The Unrepentant don’t have much of a future.
[Pro 2:22 ESV] but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.

The Path To Wisdom
Saturday Jan 18, 2014
Saturday Jan 18, 2014
Who, what, where, when, why.
Who wrote it?:
Solomon highly likely penned chapters 1 to 29.
Agur wrote chapter thirty.
King Lemuel wrote chapter thirty-one.
When was it written?
During his reign from 970 to 930 B.C.
When was it compiled? Compiled and edited from 715 to 686 b.c.
The role of Hezekiah's men (see 25:1)
Why was it written: it’s spelled out for us in the first chapter.
Background leading up to Proverbs.
A little about Solomon,
2nd child of David and Bathsheba
2 Samuel 11-12. The first child died at birth and was conceived in adultery.
Because of David’s adultery, his oldest sons never became King. (a judgment of God)
Solomon became the next King. King number 3.
Close call for Solomon.
Absolom was the first born. He tried to steal the kingdom from David and eventually was killed.
The next in line was Adonijah, He tried to take the kingdom, without David even knowing about it.
The folks closest to David,
Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Bathsheba went directly to David and had Solomon become King.
Solomon was given a choice from God.
[1Ki 3:5 ESV] At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, "Ask what I shall give you."
[1Ki 3:6 ESV] And Solomon said, "You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day.
[1Ki 3:7 ESV] And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in.
[1Ki 3:8 ESV] And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude.
[1Ki 3:9 ESV] Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?"
[1Ki 3:10 ESV] It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this.
[1Ki 3:11 ESV] And God said to him, "Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right,
[1Ki 3:12 ESV] behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you.
[1Ki 3:13 ESV] I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days.
[1Ki 3:14 ESV] And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days."
Overview of Proverbs: See outline in powerpoint.
Chapter One!
[Pro 1:1 ESV] The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
Purpose:
[Pro 1:2 ESV] To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight,
[Pro 1:3 ESV] to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;
[Pro 1:4 ESV] to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth--
[Pro 1:5 ESV] Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance,
[Pro 1:6 ESV] to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles.
Where it begins:
[Pro 1:7 ESV] The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
The Gospel.
Know that you are a sinner,
know that you need a savior.
If you are not afraid of God’ wrath, then you are not willing or able to embrace God’s Love.
Wisdom Leverages Other People’s Experiences, good or bad.
[Pro 1:8 ESV] Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching,
[Pro 1:9 ESV] for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.
Teenagers struggle with this because they in the process of becoming independent.
Don’t follow the popular evil people. They may be “cool”, but they are fools.
[Pro 1:10 ESV] My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.
A Fools plan. Easy money, community, provision. (evil gain)
[Pro 1:11 ESV] If they say, "Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without reason;
[Pro 1:12 ESV] like Sheol let us swallow them alive, and whole, like those who go down to the pit;
[Pro 1:13 ESV] we shall find all precious goods, we shall fill our houses with plunder;
[Pro 1:14 ESV] throw in your lot among us; we will all have one purse"—
Warning: it leads to death.
[Pro 1:15 ESV] my son, do not walk in the way with them; hold back your foot from their paths,
[Pro 1:16 ESV] for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.
[Pro 1:17 ESV] For in vain is a net spread in the sight of any bird,
[Pro 1:18 ESV] but these men lie in wait for their own blood; they set an ambush for their own lives.
[Pro 1:19 ESV] Such are the ways of everyone who is greedy for unjust gain; it takes away the life of its possessors.
Wisdom personified
[Pro 1:20 ESV] Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice;
[Pro 1:21 ESV] at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:
[Pro 1:22 ESV] "How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?
[Pro 1:23 ESV] If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.
Nobody likes to be told that they are wrong. Especially when not asked.
[Pro 1:24 ESV] Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,
[Pro 1:25 ESV] because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof,
No mercy for the foolish.
[Pro 1:26 ESV] I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you,
[Pro 1:27 ESV] when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.
Sometimes there are No second Chances.
[Pro 1:28 ESV] Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
[Pro 1:29 ESV] Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD,
[Pro 1:30 ESV] would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof,
Consequences for rejecting the Gospel
[Pro 1:31 ESV] therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices.
[Pro 1:32 ESV] For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them;
[Pro 1:33 ESV] but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster."
Promise from Jesus
[Jhn 10:27 ESV] My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
[Jhn 10:28 ESV] I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
[Jhn 10:29 ESV] My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.
[Jhn 10:30 ESV] I and the Father are one."
Seal
[2Cr 1:21 NIV] Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us,
[2Cr 1:22 NIV] set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Seal
[Eph 1:13 NIV] And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
[Eph 1:14 NIV] who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.
Tell people about Jesus, you cannot lose.
[2Cr 4:5 NIV] For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.
[2Cr 4:6 NIV] For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ.
[2Cr 4:7 NIV] But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
[2Cr 4:8 NIV] We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;
[2Cr 4:9 NIV] persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
[2Cr 4:10 NIV] We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
[2Cr 4:11 NIV] For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body.

Support this ministry by following this link to CBD and buy something.
The wonderful gift of seasons is it reminds us of renewals.
[2Cr 5:17 NIV] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
New Creation not old religion
[Gal 6:12 NIV] Those who want to impress people by means of the flesh are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.
[Gal 6:13 NIV] Not even those who are circumcised keep the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh.
[Gal 6:14 NIV] May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
[Gal 6:15 NIV] Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation.
How to become a new Creation? You must be Born Again.
Born Again
[Jhn 3:3 NIV] Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."
[Jhn 3:4 NIV] "How can someone be born when they are old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother's womb to be born!"
[Jhn 3:5 NIV] Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.
[Jhn 3:6 NIV] Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
[Jhn 3:7 NIV] You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'
[Jhn 3:8 NIV] The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
Born Again is a work of the Holy Spirit.
No Worries. If you desire the Holy Spirit to change you, most likely He has already changed you.
If you could care less, then you have not been born again and you are a child of God’s wrath.
If that statement offended you, then you are clearly an enemy of God. Your heart has exposed you.
Once Born Again, Always Born Again. (Imperishable)
[1Pe 1:23 NIV] For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
The Holy Spirit enables a person to respond to Jesus Christ
[Jhn 3:9 NIV] "How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.
[Jhn 3:10 NIV] "You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things?
[Jhn 3:11 NIV] Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony.
[Jhn 3:12 NIV] I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?
[Jhn 3:13 NIV] No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven--the Son of Man.
[Jhn 3:14 NIV] Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
[Jhn 3:15 NIV] that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him."
[Jhn 3:16 NIV] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
[Jhn 3:17 NIV] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
[Jhn 3:18 NIV] Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
You are reconciled to God the Father through Jesus Christ.
[2Cr 5:18 NIV] All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
[2Cr 5:19 NIV] that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
Born of God
[Jhn 1:10 NIV] He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
[Jhn 1:11 NIV] He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
[Jhn 1:12 NIV] Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--
[Jhn 1:13 NIV] children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
Only Hope in what has been precisely Told US
[1Jo 3:1 NIV] See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
[1Jo 3:2 NIV] Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
[1Jo 3:3 NIV] All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
Have you been Born of God?
[1Jo 5:1 NIV] Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
[1Jo 5:2 NIV] This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.
[1Jo 5:3 NIV] In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,
[1Jo 5:4 NIV] for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
[1Jo 5:5 NIV] Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
[1Jo 5:10 NIV] Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.
[1Jo 5:11 NIV] And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
[1Jo 5:12 NIV] Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
[1Jo 5:13 NIV] I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Sanctification: Despite Us.
[1Jo 3:4 NIV] Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
[1Jo 3:5 NIV] But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.
[1Jo 3:6 NIV] No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
[1Jo 3:7 NIV] Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.
[1Jo 3:8 NIV] The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.
You are UNABLE go on sinning.
[1Jo 3:9 NIV] No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
[1Jo 3:10 NIV] This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.
Consider the most unpopular verses in America
The Message is about Unrepentance.
Instead of making excuses to continue your sin, you admit it is a sin and begin the fight of turning away from the sin.
God made me that way . . . . You can use that argument for ANY sin. Even murder. Abortion doctors.
[1Cr 6:9 ESV] Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,
[1Cr 6:10 ESV] nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
[1Cr 6:11 ESV] And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Consider 1 John 3:9 and Gal 5. Which is or was your pet sin?
You sins should be slipping away from you, because God is winning the war in you.
You should be developing a profound hatred of your own sin.
[Rom 7:14 ESV] For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin.
[Rom 7:15 ESV] For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.
[Rom 7:16 ESV] Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.
[Rom 7:17 ESV] So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
[Rom 7:18 ESV] For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
[Rom 7:19 ESV] For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.
[Rom 7:20 ESV] Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
[Rom 7:21 ESV] So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand.
[Rom 7:22 ESV] For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being,
[Rom 7:23 ESV] but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
[Rom 7:24 ESV] Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
[Rom 7:25 ESV] Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
How long should a Christian punish oneself when you openly commit a sin against your God?
To punish yourself is not repenting, it’s works.
Godly Guilt leads to repentance, repentance leads to hatred of your sin.
A Godly man knows he is a sinner in need of a savior.
[Rom 12:3 NIV] For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
[Rom 12:1 NIV] Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship.
The Great Commandment and The Great Commission.
The Five Disciplines
[Rom 12:2 NIV] Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Like Fire: Change is always internal first and emanates outward
New Heart
[Eze 36:26 ESV] And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
[Eze 36:27 ESV] And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
[Eze 36:28 ESV] You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
[Eze 36:29 ESV] And I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. And I will summon the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine upon you.
You can only be born again once
but you are being renewed every moment.
[Psa 51:9 ESV] Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
[Psa 51:10 ESV] Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
[Psa 51:11 ESV] Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
[Psa 51:12 ESV] Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
[Psa 51:13 ESV] Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.
[Psa 51:14 ESV] Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
[Psa 51:15 ESV] O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
[Psa 51:16 ESV] For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
[Psa 51:17 ESV] The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
You now live to Serve Jesus
[2Cr 5:14 NIV] For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
[2Cr 5:15 NIV] And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
Go tell somebody!
[2Cr 5:20 NIV] We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.
[2Cr 5:21 NIV] God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Immanuel; God With Us

Saturday Jan 04, 2014
1. Jesus said He was God.
[Jhn 10:24 NIV] - The Jews gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."
[Jhn 10:25 NIV] - Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father's name speak for me,
[Jhn 10:26 NIV] - but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.
[Jhn 10:27 NIV] - My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
[Jhn 10:28 NIV] - I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.
[Jhn 10:29 NIV] - My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all ; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.
[Jhn 10:30 NIV] - I and the Father are one."
[Jhn 10:31 NIV] - Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him,
[Jhn 10:32 NIV] - but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?"
[Jhn 10:33 NIV] - "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."
No other leader of any other religion or major cult claimed they were God.
Buddha, Pursued enlightenment of his own definition
Muhammad, Claim to be the one true prophet, but not God.
Which forces an honest answer from people.
You cannot say Jesus was a good teacher and leave it at that. Either He is delusional and should not be trusted at all or His claims to deity are true and you better worship Him as God.
2. Believe the miracles.
Jesus Back up His claims with miracles.
Mention Miracle Chart
[Jhn 10:31 NIV] - Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him,
[Jhn 10:32 NIV] - but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?"
[Jhn 10:33 NIV] - "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."
[Jhn 10:37 ESV] If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me;
[Jhn 10:38 ESV] but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."
3. Jesus forgave sins.
Only God can forgive sins. Why? Because when we sin we sin against God.
Every little sin is cosmic treason against an eternal God.
That is why hell is eternal conscious punishment.
The punishment is “fair” and equal to the crime.
[Psa 41:4 NIV] - I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you."
[Jer 14:20 NIV] - O LORD, we acknowledge our wickedness and the guilt of our fathers; we have indeed sinned against you
That is why blessed is the man whose sins God will not hold against him.
[Rom 4:3 NIV] - What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."
[Rom 4:4 NIV] - Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation.
[Rom 4:5 NIV] - However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.
[Rom 4:6 NIV] - David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
[Rom 4:7 NIV] - "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
[Rom 4:8 NIV] - Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him."
The goal is not to have God say, “Good enough” You tried your best. That’s what the world says.
World message: A loving God will overlook your rejection of Him and His rules.
Our hope is that God will never even see our evil, only the righteousness of Jesus on us.
A response to a Duck. Phil Robertson quoted the Bible and it was held against him.
Look at the message: It’s full of HOPE and LOVE!
Before I read this I am asking you to practice true Tolerance and Open-Mindedness
Any Unrepentant person, all forms of unrepentant sin, which includes any form sexual immorality, not just homosexuality.
People don’t want to be Washed, Sanctified and Justified by God through Jesus, because we first must acknowledge our ways are evil and turn away from them. We would rather keep our evil ways and make a god who is as evil as we are.
Gospel: God Himself will punish your wickedness on Jesus and declare you not guilty at all.
Jesus forgave sins and backed it up with a miracles.
[Luk 5:17 NIV] - One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of the Lord was present for him to heal the sick.
[Luk 5:18 NIV] - Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus.
[Luk 5:19 NIV] - When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
[Luk 5:20 NIV] - When Jesus saw their faith, he said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven."
[Luk 5:21 NIV] - The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, "Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
[Luk 5:22 NIV] - Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, "Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?
[Luk 5:23 NIV] - Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?
[Luk 5:24 NIV] - But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins . . ." He said to the paralyzed man, "I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home."
[Luk 5:25 NIV] - Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God."
[Mat 9:7 NIV] - And the man got up and went home.
4. Died on a cross.
[Luk 18:31 NIV] - Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, "We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.
[Luk 18:32 NIV] - He will be handed over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog him and kill him.
It’s why we call Good Friday Good. It’s why the Cross is our logo
5. And one more thing, Came back to life.
[Luk 18:33 NIV] - On the third day he will rise again."
[Mat 28:2 NIV] - There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
[Mat 28:3 NIV] - His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
[Mat 28:4 NIV] - The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
[Mat 28:5 NIV] - The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
[Mat 28:6 NIV] - He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
[Mat 28:7 NIV] - Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."
Paul Writes
[1Cr 15:3 NIV] - For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
[1Cr 15:4 NIV] - that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
[1Cr 15:5 NIV] - and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.
[1Cr 15:6 NIV] - After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
[1Cr 15:7 NIV] - Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,
[1Cr 15:8 NIV] - and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
Luke begins his Gospel with the following statements.
[Luk 1:1 NIV] - Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us,
[Luk 1:2 NIV] - just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.
[Luk 1:3 NIV] - Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,
[Luk 1:4 NIV] - so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
Peter writes.
[2Pe 1:16 NIV] - We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
[2Pe 1:17 NIV] - For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
[2Pe 1:18 NIV] - We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.
[2Pe 1:19 NIV] - And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
John writes concerning Christ.
[1Jo 1:1 NIV] - That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched--this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.
[1Jo 1:2 NIV] - The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.
[1Jo 1:3 NIV] - We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
[1Jo 1:4 NIV] - We write this to make our joy complete.
Our Response!
[Psa 5:11 ESV] But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.
[Psa 5:12 ESV] For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.
[Psa 16:11 ESV] You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
If you like Christmas now, Wait till Heaven!

Son Of Man

Saturday Dec 28, 2013
The Jewish Messiah is the most important person in all of human history.
For the Jew and none Jew.
The oldest historical writings about the one who can reconcile Creator God and His Creation.
Christmas celebrates the arrival, birth of the King of the Universe.
Christmas has two root words. Christ and Mass.
Christ = Messiah
Mass = Celebration
The Old Testament foretells of this Messiah to come.
[Mat 2:3 ESV] When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;
[Mat 2:4 ESV] and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.
[Mat 2:5 ESV] They told him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:
[Mat 2:6 ESV] "'And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.'"
[Mat 2:7 ESV] Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared.
This Messiah is everything a Cosmic Ruler would need, wrapped up into One Super Dude.
He would have to be, if He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
The Prophet, Priest, King
He is the subject and the object
Nicene Creed
The purpose of a creed is to act as a yardstick of correct belief, or orthodoxy.
Some would come along with a heresy and the Church would come together, sort out the Scriptures, compile the Truths and come to a conclusion or Bedrock Doctrine of Truth on various topics.
These Truths
Nicene Creed Composed around 325AD to combat forms of heresy.
The big one was Arianism; That Jesus was not fully God.
Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.
Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Son of Man: One of the Titles Jesus used most frequent when referring to Himself was “Son of Man”.
The Ancient of Days: God the Father
[Dan 7:9 ESV] "As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire.
[Dan 7:10 ESV] A stream of fire issued and came out from before him; a thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the court sat in judgment, and the books were opened.
[Dan 7:12 ESV] As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.
[Dan 7:13 ESV] "I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.
[Dan 7:14 ESV] And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.
What did the vision mean?
[Dan 7:27 ESV] And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; his kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.'
Son of Man: kenosis, emptied of deity.
[Phl 2:4 ESV] Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
[Phl 2:5 ESV] Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
[Phl 2:6 ESV] who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
[Phl 2:7 ESV] but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
[Phl 2:8 ESV] And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
[Phl 2:9 ESV] Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
[Phl 2:10 ESV] so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
[Phl 2:11 ESV] and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Hypostatic Union: God Man
[Hbr 1:1 ESV] Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,
[Hbr 1:2 ESV] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
[Hbr 1:3 ESV] He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
[Hbr 1:4 ESV] having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
Hypostatic means personal. The hypostatic union is the personal union of Jesus’ two natures.
100% God
100% Human
Immanuel
[Isa 7:14 ESV] Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
[Mat 1:23 ESV] "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us).
Emptied of His own Divinity, Filled with the Holy Spirit;
[Mar 1:9 ESV] In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
[Mar 1:10 ESV] And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
[Mar 1:11 ESV] And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."
[Mar 1:12 ESV] The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.
In order for mankind to be reconciled to God one human had to be perfect.
[Hbr 4:14 ESV] Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
[Hbr 4:15 ESV] For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
[Hbr 4:16 ESV] Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
How did Jesus do it? How did He not sin?
First Adam, Last Adam Comparison
[1Cr 15:45 ESV] Thus it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
[1Cr 15:46 ESV] But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.
[1Cr 15:47 ESV] The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven.
[1Cr 15:48 ESV] As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
[1Cr 15:49 ESV] Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
First Adam:
From the earth.
Sinless, Did not have an internal desire to be evil
The perfect human
Not Ignorant, He had knowledge. Why, God instructed him.
Don’t eat of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and evil.
Evil was an external source,
Delivered by a lie, miss-information.
The capacity to corrupt God’s creation was evident, if the source of the corruption was external to the creation.
Did not have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Last Adam:
From Heaven
God;
Sinless, No internal desire for evil.
The Perfect Human
Emptied Himself of His Deity
Filled Himself with the Deity of the Holy Spirit.
Evil: external Source
Jesus was not impressed.
Jesus had to take on human form to be the perfect sacrifice for sin.
The one MAJOR difference that cannot be overlooked is that Jesus was filled with 3rd Person of the Trinity.
He was Holy Spirit Fortified!
The conclusion is always the same.
The Capacity to corrupt the Creator is impossible.
1. Born Sinless: Born Perfect, He was the Perfect Man. No internal desire of evil.
2. Filled with the Holy Spirit. Although Jesus emptied Himself of His Deity, He was empowered by the Holy Spirit.
The High Priest & King
[Hbr 5:4 ESV] And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was.
[Hbr 5:5 ESV] So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you";
[Hbr 5:6 ESV] as he says also in another place, "You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek."
[Hbr 5:7 ESV] In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.
[Hbr 5:8 ESV] Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.
[Hbr 5:9 ESV] And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,
[Hbr 5:10 ESV] being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
Like a son of man
[Rev 1:12 ESV] Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands,
[Rev 1:13 ESV] and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest.
[Rev 1:14 ESV] The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire,
[Rev 1:15 ESV] his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters.
[Rev 1:16 ESV] In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.
[Rev 1:17 ESV] When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Fear not, I am the first and the last,
[Rev 1:18 ESV] and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.
Our Response!
[1Pe 1:3 ESV] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
[1Pe 1:4 ESV] to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
[1Pe 1:5 ESV] who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

You can
learn about how the Corinth church was established in Act 18
A
Collection for Jerusalem
[1Cr 16:1
ESV] Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches
of Galatia, so you also are to do.
[1Cr 16:2
ESV] On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and
store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I
come.
[1Cr 16:3
ESV] And when I arrive, I will send those whom you accredit by letter to carry
your gift to Jerusalem.
[1Cr 16:4
ESV] If it seems advisable that I should go also, they will accompany me.
Concerning
the Jerusalem Church at this time.
Jerusalem: The suffering hub. First from the Jews
And Paul was
in the mix of it.
[Act 8:1
ESV] And Saul approved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great
persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered
throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.
Second from
the government. Local King Herod.
[Act 12:1
ESV] About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to
the church.
[Act 12:2
ESV] He killed James the brother of John with the sword,
[Act 12:3
ESV] and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter
also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread.
I will be
back
[1Cr 16:5
ESV] I will visit you after passing through Macedonia, for I intend to pass
through Macedonia,
[1Cr 16:6
ESV] and perhaps I will stay with you or even spend the winter, so that you may
help me on my journey, wherever I go.
[1Cr 16:7
ESV] For I do not want to see you now just in passing. I hope to spend some
time with you, if the Lord permits.

ESV] But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost,
[1Cr 16:9
ESV] for a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many
adversaries.
Sending
Timothy not Apollos
[1Cr 16:10
ESV] When Timothy comes, see that you put him at ease among you, for he is
doing the work of the Lord, as I am.
[1Cr 16:11
ESV] So let no one despise him. Help him on his way in peace, that he may
return to me, for I am expecting him with the brothers.
[1Cr 16:12
ESV] Now concerning our brother Apollos, I strongly urged him to visit you with
the other brothers, but it was not at all his will to come now. He will come
when he has opportunity.
Apollos was
a visiting servant.
Had a good
idea as to the struggles of the church.
[1Cr 1:10
ESV] I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all
of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united
in the same mind and the same judgment.
[1Cr 1:11
ESV] For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is quarreling
among you, my brothers.
[1Cr 1:12
ESV] What I mean is that each one of you says, "I follow Paul," or
"I follow Apollos," or "I follow Cephas," or "I follow
Christ."
[1Cr 1:13
ESV] Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the
name of Paul?

Paul explains

[2Cr 12:7
ESV] So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness
of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to
harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited.
[2Cr 12:8
ESV] Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.
[2Cr 12:9
ESV] But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is
made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of
my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
[2Cr 12:10
ESV] For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults,
hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

[1Cr 15:1 ESV] Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,
[1Cr 15:2 ESV] and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.
[1Cr 15:3 ESV] For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
[1Cr 15:28 ESV] When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.
[1Cr 15:29 ESV] Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf?
There appears to have been some obscure practice, of baptizing for the dead. Living people hoping the practice of baptism vicariously effected loved ones who had passed away.
Not common
Not continued anywhere in Church history, from the NT to now.
Cults seem to like this practice. Mormons.
*Theologically, Is a Major Conflict with the Gospel. Jesus Christ + . . . . . nothing.
Jesus Christ + ________ = Salvation (Go to Heaven)
If you add anything, you must keep track
Also, Christ is diminished
Works, Baptism, Sacraments, Church Authority,
Foundational Theology on Salvation: 5 Solas
1, Sola fide ("by faith alone")
Faith (That Jesus saved you) produces works, = root, fruit
Not: Faith + Works = You and Jesus save you.
The Catholic Church taught that we are justified by faith and the works that we produce, which the righteousness that God infuses in us through faith brings about.
2. Sola scriptura ("by Scripture alone")
When it comes to theology and practice what is absolute source?
The Bible + . . . . . . ? = Authority thus Salvation.
Church counsels, “sacred” traditions and The Pope.
Church history, traditions are very useful in that they force us back to the original collection of writings (the Bible).
3. Sola gratia ("by grace alone")
Grace + . . . . . .? = Salvation? The Sinless Life of Christ & The Substitutionary Atonement of Christ.
Works? Catholics have a merit system. Because the Sacrifice of Christ is not enough. People need additional ways to add to their scale of right and wrong. Penance, good works, Sacraments and Indulgencies.
The Catholic Church taught that we are saved through a combination of God's grace, the merits that we accumulate through penance and good works, and the superfluity of merits that the saints before us accumulated; the reformers responded,
4. Solus Christus or Solo Christo ("Christ alone")
The Catholic Church taught that we are saved by the merits of Christ and the saints, and that we approach God through Christ, the saints, and Mary, who all pray and intercede for us.
5. Soli Deo gloria ("glory to God alone")
Who gets the Glory for you going to Heaven?
If you did any form of works for your salvation, you get some credit.
the glory for a sinner's salvation could be attributed partly to Christ, partly to Mary and the saints, and partly to the sinner himself.
Jesus Christ + NOTHING = Salvation
[Gal 2:15 ESV] We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners;
[Gal 2:16 ESV] yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
[Eph 2:8 ESV] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
[Eph 2:9 ESV] not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
[Eph 2:10 ESV] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Back to baptism for the dead. Blip on the radar of bad practices. Paul was simply using the bad practice to make the argument of where are they placing their hope if there is no resurrection?
(If there is no resurrection. . . .)
[1Cr 15:30 ESV] Why are we in danger every hour?
[1Cr 15:31 ESV] I protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day!
[1Cr 15:32 ESV] What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."
[1Cr 15:33 ESV] Do not be deceived: "Bad company ruins good morals."
[1Cr 15:34 ESV] Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
Whoa; Direct application: Fellowship and Discipleship. “For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.”
More details. .. What is the resurrection like?
[1Cr 15:35 ESV] But someone will ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?"
[1Cr 15:36 ESV] You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
[1Cr 15:37 ESV] And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain.
[1Cr 15:38 ESV] But God gives it a body as He has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body.
Different Designs in the Universe from earth to space.
[1Cr 15:39 ESV] For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.
Different Glories: Highest Purpose in beauty and design
[1Cr 15:40 ESV] There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another.
[1Cr 15:41 ESV] There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
Get ready for the upgrade!
[1Cr 15:42 ESV] So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable.
[1Cr 15:43 ESV] It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.
[1Cr 15:44 ESV] It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
Paul refers to Genesis again:
[1Cr 15:45 ESV] Thus it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
The Sequential Order of God’s design
[1Cr 15:46 ESV] But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.
[1Cr 15:47 ESV] The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven.
[1Cr 15:48 ESV] As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
The Image of Christ; Same design!
[1Cr 15:49 ESV] Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
[1Cr 15:50 ESV] I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
Christians in the last day are going to experience something REALLY COOL!
[1Cr 15:51 ESV] Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
[1Cr 15:52 ESV] in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.
A Transformation; death to life.
[1Cr 15:53 ESV] For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
[1Cr 15:54 ESV] When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."
[1Cr 15:55 ESV] "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?"
[1Cr 15:56 ESV] The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
Victory over death Through Jesus Christ!
[1Cr 15:57 ESV] But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Where are your priorities? Get to Work talking about Jesus.
[1Cr 15:58 ESV] Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

[1Cr 15:3 ESV] For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
[1Cr 15:4 ESV] that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Peter & the 12. 500 more; You can go talk to them even now.
[1Cr 15:5 ESV] and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
[1Cr 15:6 ESV] Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.
Which James is this? James:
(2.) The son of Alphaeus, or Cleopas, "the brother" or near kinsman or cousin of our Lord (Gal 1:18,19), called James "the Less," or "the Little," probably because he was of low stature. He is mentioned along with the other apostles (Mat 10:3; Mar 3:18; Luk 6:15). He had a separate interview with our Lord after his resurrection (1Cr 15:7), and is mentioned as one of the apostles of the circumcision (Act 1:13). He appears to have occupied the position of head of the Church at Jerusalem, where he presided at the council held to consider the case of the Gentiles (Act 12:17; 15:13-29: 21:18-24). This James was the author of the epistle which bears his name.
[1Cr 15:7 ESV] Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
Ordained by Christ, Affirmed by the Apostles.
[1Cr 15:8 ESV] Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
[1Cr 15:9 ESV] For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
Ordained by Christ:
[Act 9:1 ESV] But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest
[Act 9:2 ESV] and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
[Act 9:3 ESV] Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him.
[Act 9:4 ESV] And falling to the ground he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?"
[Act 9:5 ESV] And he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
[Act 9:6 ESV] But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do."
[Act 9:7 ESV] The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one.
[Act 9:8 ESV] Saul rose from the ground, and although his eyes were opened, he saw nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.
[Act 9:9 ESV] And for three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
Affirmed by the Apostles.
[Gal 2:7 ESV] On the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel to the circumcised
[Gal 2:8 ESV] (for he who worked through Peter for his apostolic ministry to the circumcised worked also through me for mine to the Gentiles),
[Gal 2:9 ESV] and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.
Run in the Grace!
[1Cr 15:10 ESV] But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
Holy Information: Holy Post, Holy Reply.
[1Cr 15:11 ESV] Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
Faith is Acknowledge and Trust In the Truth.
[Rom 10:8 ESV] But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);
[Rom 10:9 ESV] because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
[Rom 10:10 ESV] For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
[Rom 10:11 ESV] For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame."
[Rom 10:12 ESV] For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.
[Rom 10:13 ESV] For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
[Rom 10:14 ESV] How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
[Rom 10:15 ESV] And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!"
[Rom 10:16 ESV] But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?"
[Rom 10:17 ESV] So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
I Emotionally, Spiritually, Behaviorally, lean or rely on the following facts about me and God.
1. I am truly evil in the sight of God and His Righteousness Law.
2. I will be justly punished forever for breaking His Laws and personally rebelling against Him.
3. I cannot save myself through ANY kind of deed or action.
4. God Himself had to supply a way to do the following.
a. Satisfy His Justice
b. Express His Love & Forgiveness
c. Design a way for a rebel to be reconciled to Him.
5. He sent Jesus, The God-Man.
a. Lived a Sinless life
b. Died & was punished with a sinners death
c. Raised back to life
d. Satisfied God’s Justice, Defeated Death, and provided any person anywhere in the world to reconciled to Jesus.
The Resurrection & Life after this life.
The Gospel Hinge: The Resurrection of Christ
If there is No Resurrection, Christianity is the worst religion.
[1Cr 15:12 ESV] Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
[1Cr 15:13 ESV] But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.
[1Cr 15:14 ESV] And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.
[1Cr 15:15 ESV] We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised.
[1Cr 15:16 ESV] For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised.
[1Cr 15:17 ESV] And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.
[1Cr 15:18 ESV] Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
[1Cr 15:19 ESV] If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.
[1Cr 15:20 ESV] But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Foundational Facts of the whole Bible is found in Genesis 1-11.
[1Cr 15:21 ESV] For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.
[1Cr 15:22 ESV] For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
A Real Historical Adam.
[Gen 3:17 ESV] And to Adam he said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
[Gen 3:18 ESV] thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.
[Gen 3:19 ESV] By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
There is no conflict between Empirical, Observable Science and God.
Keep in mind Laws are transcendent.
They do not need the physical to continue to be true.
They are above the physical.
Laws = Law giver. Windows 7, computer programmers
Complex Designs = Designer
It is completely irrational and unscientific to reject the Transcendent nature of TRUTH. Physical or Moral
The conflict is between Historical Science and God.
Why? Historical science are speculations based off human biased more than facts.
Example, scientist who hate God, make up an unscientific, unobservable myth to how the Universe came into existence.
Forensics: specific for a crime, but the concept is universal.
[1Cr 15:23 ESV] But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.
[1Cr 15:24 ESV] Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.
[1Cr 15:25 ESV] For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
[1Cr 15:26 ESV] The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
[1Cr 15:27 ESV] For "God has put all things in subjection under his feet." But when it says, "all things are put in subjection," it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.
[1Cr 15:28 ESV] When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.

1 Corinthians 14; The Controversial Gifts
This is a personal observation of my study and listening to the sermons I preached and edited the podcast.
Concerning Spiritual Gifts.
I know the Holy Spirit has not stopped working nor has He stopped performing miracles in their various manifestations.
I have begun this study as a Continuationist.
As I prepared the sermons, I noted great differences defined in the New Testament and the lack of any real & genuine manifestations of the exact same nature current day.
There is a clear difference of what is exhibited in the New Testament writings and what we are observing today.
This leads to a crisis point for Continuationist. In order to remain in that position you are forced to redefine Spiritual Gifts spelled out in the Bible to “make them fit” into present day phenomena.
Redefining Scripture is Eisegesis. BAD.
In this sermon you will hear me struggle to make Gifts of the Spirit fit from what is written to present day experiences.
I have no problem sharing my Spiritual journey with you, because the goal of studying our Bible is to allow the Scriptures to change US. We do not change the Scriptures.
[Rom 12:2 ESV] Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

The purpose is to tell people about Jesus.
The Great Commission:
[Mat 28:18 ESV] And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
[Mat 28:19 ESV] Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
[Mat 28:20 ESV] teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Define the Following:
Miracles
Spiritual Gifts in general
Spiritual Gifts specifically.
Did they stop?
1. Not if we define them correctly; Time and Place.
Defining the Miraculous.
1. Miraculous signs; to designate authority of the messenger that what they said is true.
The point of the miraculous is that is it NOT NORMAL. Not all the time. Not Natural
Super Natural is not natural. Contrary to nature. Something out of nothing.
[Jhn 10:31 ESV] The Jews picked up stones again to stone him.
[Jhn 10:32 ESV] Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?"
[Jhn 10:33 ESV] The Jews answered him, "It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God."
[Jhn 10:34 ESV] Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I said, you are gods'?
[Jhn 10:35 ESV] If he called them gods to whom the word of God came--and Scripture cannot be broken--
[Jhn 10:36 ESV] do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?
[Jhn 10:37 ESV] If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me;
[Jhn 10:38 ESV] but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."
Healings, freeing people from spirits, feeding people.
Jesus healed on the Sabbath, just to make the religious leaders mad.
[Jhn 3:1 ESV] Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
[Jhn 3:2 ESV] This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him."

The Book of Esther. It’s supernatural intervention using the natural to get it done.
Are we defining the gifts properly?
Defining Spiritual Gifts:
Not given once for all time, but infrequently for a certain circumstance and limited time.
Apostles. Done.
Their exhibit of Spiritual Gifts are done also.
However the Body of Believers, the church seems to be continuing.

) Prophecy Foretelling and Forth-Telling.
Forth telling (usually in a Biblical context) means telling forth - as in spreading the Word,
Whereas foretelling means declaring future events.
In either case if it is for the Glory of God.
When O.T. Prophets, Jesus or the Apostles Prophesied.
We wrote it down because it was The WORD OF GOD.
We recognized it as Divine in origin, inspired, perfect and complete.
There were O.T. and N.T. prophecies we did not write down. 1 Samuel 10:9-13.
O.T. Saul prophesied and we did not write it down.
N.T. Philips daughters prophesied and we did not write it down.
[Act 21:9 ESV] He had four unmarried daughters, who prophesied.
[Act 21:10 ESV] While we were staying for many days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.
[Act 21:11 ESV] And coming to us, he took Paul's belt and bound his own feet and hands and said, "Thus says the Holy Spirit, 'This is how the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.'"

Declaring the Bible Forth-telling, convicts hearts.
[1Cr 14:24 ESV] But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all,
[1Cr 14:25 ESV] the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God and declare that God is really among you.
Gifts to obey the Great Commandment and Great Commission.
[Rom 12:6 ESV] Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them:
if prophecy, in proportion to our faith;
[Rom 12:7 ESV] if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching;
[Rom 12:8 ESV] the one who exhorts, in his exhortation;
the one who contributes, in generosity;
the one who leads, with zeal;
the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
Observational & Historical evidence continues.
The most conservative Christian preachers have witnessed the miraculous infrequently.
Even the most conservative preachers have witnessed healings.
Unusual events of communication when ministering in foreign countries.
The Greater the Presence of the Holy Spirit, The Greater the Self-Control
[Gal 5:22 ESV] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
[Gal 5:23 ESV] gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
The presence of the Holy Spirit brings greater self-control to the people, not lack of control.
Empowerment to share truth is not losing control, but boosting you with Power, in something you lack.
“Self-Control” Fruit of the Spirit. A “gift” of Holy Spirit would not negate the Fruit of the Spirit.
The power of the Holy Spirit allows us to look at our own sin.
To share Jesus with others, despite our fears.
To be reconciled to our Christian family.
